Why was it worthwhile to establish a specialized college in Győr?
The Győr vocational college is twenty-five years old
Abstract
The first specialized college was established at Széchenyi István College in 1997. The college's management supported all initiatives that helped it achieve university status.
The specialized college movement has a long tradition in Hungary. Baron Eötvös Loránd founded the Eötvös József Collegium in 1895, modeled on the École Normale Supérieure in Paris. Its goal was to provide high-quality teacher training: to educate teachers who were scholars, excelled in their independent research, and were passionate about their profession. In this spirit, many talented young people studied there until 1950, when it was dissolved. In 1958, former members of the college reorganized the college-based talent development program. This was essentially the first specialized college in the country. This form of talent development was also supported by the state. The specialized college movement, which came to fruition in the 1970s, successfully brought together university students interested in science and public life.
